Voici la procédure complète pour déposer sa voiture à la douane du port de Manzanillo, Colòn, Panama, en 4 ETAPES. Et le plus important : SANS PASSER PAR UN AGENT (custom broker). Pour être clair, il n’est pas obligatoire d’avoir recours à un agent!
Détaillons les différentes étapes ci-dessous :
- 1- Vous devez vous rendre à la DIJ de Panama City (Direccion de Investigacion Judicial,. Coordonnées GPS : 8.966348,-79.544692) pour qu’on vous remette un document prouvant que votre véhicule est libre de gage est n’a pas d’amendes impayées. Pour ce faire, il faut y arriver tôt, avant 6h (voire 5h) du matin si possible puisqu’il y n’y a que 25 véhicules par jour qui peuvent être inspectés (si vous avez de la chance à 8h il reste de la place… ou pas 😉 ). Entre 7h et 9h ils vont vérifier si vos documents correspondent à votre numéro de châssis (VIN) et votre plaque d’immatriculation.
Sur place ou à l’avance vous devrez faire 2 photocopies de votre permis d’importation temporaire (Temporal Import Permit, TIP) qui vous est remis à l’entrée dans le pays, 2 de votre titre de propriété du véhicule (carte grise) et 2 de votre passeport.
Vous devrez revenir à 14h pour obtenir le document dans un autre bureau situé de l’autre coté de la route (coordonnées GPS : 8.96518,-79.545218).
Attention : ce document n’est valable que 7 jours. Il doit donc être fait dans la semaine précédant le dépôt du véhicule au port.
- 2- Vous devez obtenir de votre compagnie de transport (HOEGH, IVSSUK, Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Seabridge…) la Bill of Lading(BoL) après vous être acquitté de la facture. Presque toutes les compagnies ont un bureau au port de Manzanillo, Colòn qui vous délivrera la BoL (Manzanillo port administration. coordonnées GPS : 9.363937,-79.880633)
Pour HOEGH vous devez effectuer cette opération à Panama City avant de partir vers Colòn (Immeuble Capital Plaza. Coordonnées GPS : 9.00828,-79.47584).
- 3- Vous devez vous rendre à l’administration des douanes située dans la Zone Franche (coordonnées GPS : 9.34666,-79.87906) pour obtenir le formulaire de sortie pour votre véhicule. Vous devez avoir 3 copies de chacun de ces documents :
- Passeport
- Tampon d’entrée au panama sur le passeport
- Permis d’importation temporaire du panama(TIP)
- Assurance voiture
- Le document de la DIJ
- Le titre de propriété (carte grise)
- Bill of Lading
- 4- Vous devez vous rendre au bureau des Ro-Ro pour l’étape finale (coordonnées GPS : 9.36767,-79.87898). Ici vous devrez payer la taxe portuaire (79$ en cash) obtenir un tampon final des douanes puis on vous demande de rentrer votre véhicule pour une inspection de drogue avec les chiens et enfin vous leur laissez les clefs.
Ca y est !!! Vous avez déposé votre véhicule aux douanes avec succès et sans agent !!!

Here is the complete procedure to leave your car at the customs of the port of Manzanillo, Colòn, Panama, in 4 STEPS. And most importantly: WITHOUT PASSING BY A CUSTOM BROKER. To be clear, it is not mandatory to use an custom broker!Let’s detail the different steps below:
- 1- You must go to the Panama City DIJ (Direccion de Investigacion Judicial, GPS coordinates: 8.966348, -79.544692) to be given a document proving that your vehicle is free from pledge and not unpaid fines. To do this, you have to get there early, before 6am (or 5am) in the morning if possible since there are only 25 vehicles per day that can be inspected (if you’re lucky at 8am the rest of the place … or not;)). Between 7am and 9am they will check if your documents correspond to your chassis number (VIN) and your license plate.
On site or in advance you will need to make 2 photocopies of your Temporary Import Permit (TIP) which is given to you at the entry in the country, 2 of your title of the vehicle (gray card) and 2 of your passport.
You will have to return at 2pm to get the document to another office located on the other side of the road (GPS coordinates: 8.96518, -79.545218).
Warning: this document is only valid for 7 days. It must be done in the week preceding the deposit of the vehicle at the port.
- 2- You must obtain from your transport company (HOEGH, IVSSUK, Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Seabridge …) the Bill of Lading (BoL) after you have paid the bill. Almost all companies have an office at the Port of Manzanillo, Colòn that will deliver you the BoL (Manzanillo Port Administration GPS coordinates: 9.363937, -79.880633)
For HOEGH you have to do this in Panama City before heading to Colòn (Capital Plaza Building, GPS coordinates: 9.00828, -79.47584).
- 3- You must go to the customs administration located in the Free Zone (GPS coordinates: 9.34666, -79.87906) to obtain the exit form for your vehicle. You must have 3 copies of each of these documents:
– Passport
– Stamp of entry to Panama on the passport
– Panama Temporary Import Permit (TIP)
– Car insurance
– The DIJ document
– The property title of the car
– Bill of Lading
- 4- You must go to the Ro-Ro office for the final stage (GPS coordinates: 9.36767, -79.87898). Here you have to pay the port tax ($ 79 in cash) get a final customs stamp then you are asked to get your vehicle for a drug inspection with the dogs and finally you leave them the keys.
That’s it !!! You have successfully deposited your vehicle at customs without custom broker !!!
I describe here the approach to be made on the Colombian side to recover the vehicle and still WITHOUT CUSTOM BROKER!
